Birthday Party Games for Adults

Most of all our adult party game pages can be used for adult birthday party games as well.

Birthday party games for adults can be tough to come by, as most the birthday ideas out there are for kids.

Everybody's It

Easy 15 - 20 minute game. Brings a new twist to the regular game of tag. Great game for those who like to run around.

Beer Flip

This is a fun birthday part game to get your drink on--totally my love! Each person gets a cup with a small amount of beer inside. Divide into teams, one team on each side of the table. At the word “Go”, the first member of each team drinks their beer, then sets the cup on the edge of the table, top down. They must then use one finger to flip the cup right-side-up. Once that is done, the second person begins to drink. This continues until the last person from one team has flipped their cup, and then they will be the winners!

Food Challenge Cook-Off

Great bonding activity for adults. Create a 2-course meal with the secret ingredient.

Funny Business

At the start of the party, each person is given two or three slips of paper. They write some actions on the paper, which the others will have to perform. Then the slips of paper are put into a hat. Later each person draws slip at random and then performs the action. This can be loads of fun and can get a little raunchy, too!

Men VS. Women

To play this game, divide the guests into two teams: the men and the women. Using a PowerPoint presentation, give them trivia questions about the opposite sex to answer. Each question is worth one point. The team that scores the best wins!

The Birthday Hot Seat

Just how well do you know your birthday star? This game is where the birthday guests are put under the spotlight and grilled by the guest of honor.

  • Bring everyone together, then place a chair in front of them, explaining how this is the Birthday Hot Seat

  • Nominate someone to sit in the chair

  • Now, give the birthday boy or gal 30 seconds to fire as many questions about themselves at the seated player, who must get as many of them as right as possible.

(It’s a good idea for the birthday star to have a list of at least 100 things in advance, so they don’t run out of things to ask on the spot).

When the 30 seconds are up, the next player takes over.

You will need someone to keep score; because whoever gets the most questions right will win a prize.

This adult birthday party game’s fast-paced and a lot of fun, especially when the questions are funny.

Honey, I Love You

This adult birthday party game’s also great fun as an icebreaker to warm up your crowd.

  • Sit everyone in a circle, with a person in the middle

  • This person gets to go up to anyone in the circle and say “Honey, I love you, won’t you give me a smile?”

  • The person who’s been asked the question must answer with “Honey, I love you, but I just can’t smile” – as well as making sure they aren’t smiling

  • The person in the middle is allowed to do anything to the other person to encourage a smile (except touch them).

Anyone who smiles is knocked out of the game. Last person sitting wins!

Unlikely Oranges

Love silly racing adult birthday party games? With Unlikely Oranges, you’ll need to split everyone into even-sized teams.

Give each team two orange and one pair of old pantyhose, long stockings or tights.

  • Set up a race course that needs to be wide enough for 3-6 players to race at once.

  • Stuff one of the oranges down the leg of the pantyhose, then tie the pantyhouse around the player’s waist. Ideally, the orange leg should dangle down towards the ground and be swingable between their legs

  • (If you’ve got players will long legs, make sure you have different lengths of pantyhose available, just in case.)

  • On ‘Go’, players must swing the orange leg against the second orange on the floor and race to the finish line.

The first player and orange to do so wins.

Don’t Pop the Shave!

Give each person an inflated balloon and a marker. They are to draw a face with beard on the balloon. Then give them shaving cream which they will apply to the “beard” of the balloon. Using a plastic knife, they will then “shave” the balloon, and have to take care not to pop it. The last person with an unpopped (and shaven!) balloon wins!

Balloon Shaving

Everyone is given an inflatable balloon and a marker pen each, and one minute to draw a face on their balloon.

  • Next, they apply shaving cream over their balloon and are given a plastic knife afterwards, which will be their razor

  • Once all that’s done – and ‘Go’ announced – players all attempt to shave their balloon. Without popping it

  • The first person to finish wins.

To add an extra risk to the game, you can fill the balloons with whipped cream.

Crocodile Racing

Break everyone into 2 lines of 4-10 players, with each line queued up behind a designated leader.

Each player then places their hands on either the hips or shoulders of their person in front.

Everyone then crouches down, by bending down into their heels, almost like they’re sitting on each other’s laps. Each team is now a “crocodile”.

  • On ‘Go’, both crocodiles race against each other

  • They can either run to a finish line; or run to the finish but then back to the start, in order to win

  • The leader must make sure his/her team stays intact, by not running too fast ahead of them.

First crocodile to cross the line – unbroken – wins!

Birthday Family Feud

Another way to celebrate the guest of honor is to play this fun version of family feud, but instead of random survey question use fun stuff about the birthday guy or girl. Divide players into teams of five or six. Teams must try to name all the answers to a certain topic about the birthday person (see examples below).

SET UP: You’ll need to think of at least 6 different categories to play. Depending on the topic questions you choose, you may need to get help from the birthday person to get the answers. Be creative and come up with some fun topics . Topics can be anything, just try and have between 4-8 answers for each topic. Some examples:

Just fill in the blank with the birthday persons name.

  • 6 things you’ll be sure to find in _________ purse ( or wallet)

  • Top 7 favorite bands

  • Top 5 items that we wish __________ would finally throw away

  • Top 6 people on ____________ speed dial

  • Top 4 guilty pleasures

  • Top 4 movies that made ____________ cry/laugh

Write each separate answer on a strip of poster board. Before each category is called out, pin all the answers for that category onto a corkboard facing backwards so the contestants can see them (or tape them up on a wall). Make sure you know which answer is where.

TO PLAY: To start the game flip a coin. Whichever team wins the coin toss can choose to play or pass.Starting with the team that won the toss up, have each player give an answer to the category. They cannot have any help from their other team mates. If they answer correctly turn over that answer, if it is wrong the team receives a strike. Now it’s the next players turn.

The players take turn answering the question until they get them all correct OR receive three strikes. If they get them all correct then they receive two points for each answer and you move onto the next category (and the next team starts). If they receive three strikes, then other team has ONE chance to steal . They can discuss it together and then offer one final answer. If that answer is on the board then they win all the points showing for that category. If it is not then the first team gets to keep all the points they earned and the rest of the answers are revealed. After move on to the next category starting with the other team.

Fill in the Lyrics

Before the birthday party have the guest of honor make a list of 20 songs that they love. Choose a lyric line from each of them, to make it easier choose a line from the chorus. Type them up on a piece of paper leave one word or phrase out of each lyric chosen.

Title the page “ ( birthday person’s name) playlist –How well do you know his/her favorite songs? “

Make enough copies for every guest. Pass them out at the start of the party and have everyone fill in as many blanks as they can without getting help from other guests or the internet. Offer a prize to whoever fills in the most correctly. Perhaps a CD with all those songs.

Personal Jeopardy

Set up a jeopardy game but instead of random trivia questions use fun questions about the guest of honor. Choose 5-6 different categories and write 7 questions for each one. Categories can be things such as, career, childhood, hobbies, personality, and lifestyle. If it is a big milestone birthday like a 50th or 60th birthday party you can make each category about a different decade of their life.

One way to set up the game is to use a different poster board for each category. Write the category title on each poster board and hang them on the wall. Tape each index card on the poster board that it belongs to. Make sure you tape the cards where the questions face in. You can assign point values for each question depending how hard they are. Write these on the flip side of the cards where all the payers can view them.

TO PLAY Divide guest into three teams. Give everyone a buzzer (this could be a bell). Play just like jeopardy. You can even make some questions daily doubles!

Two Truths And a Lie

This game can be played on the fly or with a little advance planning, and works best with groups of people who may not know each other too well. Everyone gathers together and takes turns telling two true facts and one lie about themselves. The listeners vote on which of the three statements is the lie. If they correctly guess the lie, the liar wins nothing. If the liar successfully fools everyone, they may win a small prize. To play the game with a bit of advance planning, the host can have everyone submit their truths and lies in advance, and then reads each person’s statements aloud to the crowd with the same end goal: fool everyone.

The Press Conference Guessing Game

Use this game to put the spotlight on the birthday boy or girl, or take turns so everyone gets a chance to play. In this game, one player is sent to another room while the remaining guests pick a person for he or she to be when they return. Don’t be afraid to get creative – the person can be a real public figure like President Obama, or can be something outrageous like a man being tackled by kittens. Once the player returns, he or she holds a press conference. The remaining guests take turns asking strategic questions, giving the player clues to his or her identity. After a set time period, the player must guess who he or she is.

Don’t move

This game I have learnt recently and found to be really fun. Actually few weeks back one of my friend started out this game in a house party which turned out to be awesome. So allow me to share how this game can be played.

  • It can be played with any age group or mix and match.

  • You need to have at least 10 volunteers for the game.

  • For this no props required.

  • It can be played in minimum area.

How to play

As I mentioned above you need at least 10 volunteers to make the game more interesting. Let them stand, sit or do anything. One person will start the game with saying statue all of a sudden. As soon as the word comes out everybody have to be statue in the position what so ever they are doing. I,e someone pulling up his paints and as soon as statue comes out, he will be standing on the same pose.

The game now begins, the person who starts will manipulate the other persons who are in statue, he/she will try to divert their mind by speaking, making funny poses, showing something in mobile or anything.

The purpose is to make anyone in the group move, even eye too. Once someone caught moving or changing any posture from statue, then he/she is out of the game and then he/she will manipulate the other person.

So as soon as people are out of the game they will built team and try to manipulate all together to persons who are still in game. In this way the last man or woman standing will win the game.

Pass the parcel game

I am sure most of you must be aware of this game but if some of you don’t, then here I would like to explain you how it can be played.

  • At least 7 people should participate

  • Gift layered wrapped required.

  • Music system.

  • A person to monitor the game

How to play

For this game you need one gift and some layers of wrappers. That means you need to wrap it many times like in a layer. You can put as many as layers you want. Talking about the people who are playing should sit or stand in a circle.

Now start the music, as soon as music starts one person starts the game by passing that wrapped gift in a circle. The twist in the game is that one person who is handling the music can stop any time he/she wants and whenever the music stops, the person who have got the parcel to his/her hand opens the top layer.

Now this game can be played by passing and passing until the last layered has opened and the man or woman who opens the last layers wins the game and the gift.

I have added some fun ways to make this game more interesting. Now whenever one layer is unwrapped, the person who does it have to take the stage and do whatever the other people say. i.e they can say, to in-act someone, to sing, to dance or to make any funny face. This will make the game more interesting.

The Pinning Game

Generally in any adult birthday party, one drinking game is found to be there. So if you are interested in drinking game, then go for this one.

It is the drinking birthday party game for adults. I mean if the guests are suitable for the drinking game, then you can try this one. It is very simple to play and can be played all over night with other games running in between.

  • Few number of people.

  • A lightweight clothespin

To start the game one person who starts have the pin to be tucked secretly to other person. It should be in a way that the person should not be aware that he had been tucked even the other members also.

So no one should know whom the pin has been tucked and when. The person who pins can start ten counting. As soon as he/she starts counting everyone start searching each part of their body to check if they had been pinned.

If that person finds the pin, then it the game will continue. If he/she doesn’t within 10 counts, then he/she have to dink become the pinner and same game continues. This game is not for winning or losing, it is just to enjoy and drink.

Catch my lie

I have learned this game in my acting theatre classes. It is really interesting all it needs liars and actors.

  • Few people required

  • Equal no. of chits to the number of volunteers

  • Every person should write 2 truths and one lie on his/her chit.

The game is that every person who is playing should come one by one on stage and tell those truths and lie which he/she have written on the chit. The other people who are watching that person can guess which one is lie. If he/she doesn’t get caught then the person is successful in fooling other people and wins some gift.

Birthday Roast

If you want to make this adult birthday party to be spicy and fun, then try a birthday roast. I am sure you know what is a roast. If you remember those 90’s celebrity roasts. If not, then let me tell you what it is.

A roast is basically named for an event where the participants( i.e guest of honors, roastee, host-master.) try to make jokes with their humor on the roastee and even the guest of honors to make the crowd go snatching their hairs laughing so much.

The main aim of this game is to make everyone laughing to the core and enjoy the fun and humor created.

Bluff master

It’s a card game which is required the brain to be used and  some acting skills also to win the game . I don’t know if you are aware of this game or not.

Anyways let me tell you how it is played, it is not really very fun and laughing game but I can assure you that it is the most interesting game.

  • Deck of cards

  • You need 4 Players or 5

  • Participants sit in a circle.

Divide the cards equally amongst all the players. Each player will have different cards, some will be same. As you know a deck of card contains every set of 4’s, i.e 4 Ace, 4 queen, 4 6s, etc..

One player will start the game by putting one or more card facing the ground. Example player 1 puts two cards on the table and say 2 Ace. He/she could be lying on this or it can be true.

Now the person sitting to his right gets a chance to either:

Tell him/her to show the card if he thinks the person has lied on the cards. If he/she caught lying then he/she will take all the cards back. Now person sitting on right could also lie or can put the exact same card. I.e 1 Ace.

This way the game will move to right and anyone caught lie holds the card or if someone guessed it wrong needs to takes all the cards.

This way someone will loose cards and some will gain. The winner is the one who makes it too loose all his/her cards.

Celebrity couples

Actually I should write it in the first place as this is a kick off way to mingle up the guests. This game is perfect if you have guests from different places and are unknown to each other.

  • Sticky notes

  • Even number people

Write all couple names in each chit and divide the chits into two. With this all couples chit are divided and doubled. Now shuffle the chits so that they can mix and match in each other.

Stick each note with one guest on their back( which they can’t see but can see others chit). With this, each guest will get one celebrity name of a couple. Let them first identify which celebrity they are and then find his/her partner (Angelina Jolie and brad Pitt ).

Purses, Pockets and Wallets

Adult birthday party games for the wallet or purse. Quickly search your pockets for certain items in the pocket.

Goal: Be the first to bring up the items called and get the most points.

Write up a list of 10 items you might find in a wallet.

How to Play
Can have two teams of two

2. Explain the game to the guests. You will call out an object from your list. The first team to bring you the called object wins a point for their team. Good luck.

Cake Decorating Challenge

Duck Duck Goose

Mall Scavenger Hunt

Egg Drop

Group solving/ice breaker adult birthday party games

Goal: To collaborate in protecting an within a made structure

Materials Needed:

a roll of news paper, sticky tape, 5 straws, string, an egg, plastic bag, 5 ice block sticks, two balloons

How to Play

It's a race against the clock

Have everyone put into groups of four. Explain that they have to make a structure for an egg, that they need to drop it from a height and not have it smashed inside.

After 15 minutes of making the structure, stand on a step-ladder and drop each one, checking to see which one survived if any. It's a good idea to do this exercise outside as it is easily cleaned up.

Musical Hula Hoops

You’ll need lively music as well as a bunch of average-sized hula hoops strewn on the floor.

  • Keep everyone dancing to the music

  • But as soon as it stops, players jump into a hula hoop (one per person) and start to hula

  • Anyone not in a hula has to do 3 press ups

  • Then restart the music.

Add more fun to the game as you wish. For instance, instead of needing to hula once in the hoop, you can instruct players to do a fun dance or weird movement.

Funny Birthday Business

Looking for acting adult birthday party games? Here’s one.

For Funny Birthday Business, you will need a hat, slips of paper and pencils.

Give each player 2-3 slips of paper and 2 minutes to write down one funny thing they’d like one of the other guests to perform.

  • Once time’s up, collect up the papers and shuffle in your hat

  • The hat is now placed on a table, next to a bottle of wine and empty glass

  • The player who starts must take a sip of wine, pull a slip from the hat – and perform it

To make this game work, think of funny or silly tasks – for example “pretend to be a snail” or “dance on one leg while flapping your arms and nodding”.

As the host, secretly slip in a few tasks that everyone must perform together, e.g. pretend to be cats licking themselves. This is a great game to film.

Clothes Pegs

You’ll need 6 or more players, each wearing 5 clothes pegs around their neck (i.e. collar, jumper v-neck, attached to a necklace).

Set aside 1-2 hours to play, or play during your party.

  • Decide as a group 5 words to ban for the duration. Think of commonly used ones, for example, “happy", “birthday", “presents", “drink", “cake"

  • Players must now catch one another saying the forbidden word

  • So, if, say, James hears Ursula say “birthday", he can ask her for one of her pegs.

Players who lose all their pegs can say the words again. They can also rejoin the game, by trying to trick players with pegs into saying the words.

The player with the most clothes pegs at the end of the game wins a prize.

Don’t You Dare Smile

To play this game, everyone in the room must sit in a wide circle. The first person walks up to anyone in the circle and says, “I love you! Smile or me!” The other person must then say “I can’t smile today.” The point is that they are not smiling at all. Then the person standing in front of them can do anything to make them smile but can’t touch them. The person who manages to go without smiling wins.

The Hula Game

Start with some lively music and several hula hoops on the floor. When the music stops, all the players must immediately jump into a hoop and start to move. Those who don’t get into a hoop must do something embarrassing; let the birthday guy or gal decide what it might be!

The Orange Race

Using a length of pantyhose that can be tied around someone’s waist, slip an orange into the bottom of the hose. Then tie it so that the orange hangs down between their legs. Put another orange on the floor. In groups of three, party-goers must use their pantyhose orange to knock the other orange along a track, and the person who reaches the end first wins. You can prepare a silly prize at the end to add more fun to this “silly” game.

Two Truths and One Lie

Everyone in the group must take turns telling things about themselves. They tell two truths and one lie. Everyone else has to figure out which statement is the lie. If the liar succeeds in fooling everyone, they get a prize.  Or, they have to do something funny or silly for their loss.

Keep the Pegs

To begin, each person at the party gets clothes pins which they then put on their clothes in plain sight. The person hosting the party will read out a list of words that are very common, such as “cake” or “drink” or the name of the birthday girl or guy. Whenever someone says those words, they lose a pin. The person at the end of the party with the most pins left wins a prize.

The Laughing Game

Space everyone around a table or in a large room.

Standing individually, each players takes it in turns to say “Ha”, “Ho” or “Hee”.

  • Anyone who starts laughing is kicked out of the game. Keep your game going until everyone’s virtually eliminated

The person who can keep the straightest face the longest wins.

Fluffy Toss

Divide the room into teams. Each team will designate a “catcher.” The idea is that the catcher has to catch the marshmallows that their team members throw at them, but they can only catch them with their mouth and they have to eat them! This is a great game to play when everyone has been drinking a bit, because it gets loud and fun!

Birthday Roast

Does the guest of honor have a good sense of humor? Why not throw them a birthday roast? Set up a podium and maybe a microphone if you’re planning on a lot of guests. Have the guest of honor take a seat near the podium so that the speaker can talk directly to them at some parts of their roast. It’s best to have a few preselected people that will be able to start the roast out. After they speak ask for volunteers.

Encourage them to tell embarrassing anecdotes, past escapades they got in together, and other funny stories that are humorous but not mean spirited. If you think the guests might have a hard time thinking up good roast topics try this birthday roast idea:

Create a list of fun roast topic ideas and let each guest choose one. Do this a week or two before the party is planned so that they have time to decide what they are going to say. Make sure to explain to them that it is a roast so pick out a topic idea that they can add some humor to. Here are some example roast topic ideas to get the comedic juices flowing. Just fill in the blank with the birthday persons name.
